STANDARD DIRECTIONS
1. Take Highway 18 North out of St. George, UT, towards Enterprise, UT for approx. 20 miles
2. Turn right onto N. Baker Rd. (sign for Baker Dam Recreation Area)
3. Take Baker Dam Rd around the dam for 1 mile.
4. Turn right at the Holmstead Ranch Sign onto E. Holmstead Ranch Rd.
5. Stay on Holmstead Ranch Rd. for 1 mile. It is paved.
6. Enter your code at the gate.
7. Use the attached resort map to locate your assigned cabin.
DETOUR DIRECTIONS
Please use the detour below when water is coming over the spillway at Baker Reservoir.
1. Starting at the intersection of Highway 18/Baker Dam Rd
2. Continue north on Highway 18 for 1.4 miles, then turn right onto the dirt road.
3. After 0.8 miles at the fork, turn right onto another dirt road
4. You will cross a bridge after 0.6 miles
5. 0.3 miles after the bridge, continue straight (do NOT turn left)
6. You will cross a cattle guard after 0.6 miles
7. In 0.5 miles, stay to the right
8. In 0.8 miles, you will cross over another cattle guard with an archway toward Baker Reservoir.
9. In 0.3 miles, turn left onto Holmstead Ranch Rd. It is paved.
10. Stay on Holmstead Ranch Rd. for 1 mile.
11. Enter your code at the gate.
12. Use the attached resort map to locate your assigned cabin.
CABIN DIRECTIONS BY TYPE:
LAKESIDE CABINS
- After entering through the gate, take the first right onto Marcus Street.
- Follow the road until you reach an area where the road widens, there will be a large cabin to your left and a dumpster to your right.
- You will turn right toward the dumpster and onto Hudson Ave. You will see the lake and the Lakeside Cabins (L1–L10) on your left.
- Continue around the lake until you reach your assigned Lakeside Cabin.
LAKESIDE LODGE:
- After entering through the gate, take the first right onto Marcus Street.
- Follow the road until you reach an area where the road widens, the lodge is the large cabin to your left.
- Continue straight and then turn left onto Mcguire Street, the driveway to the lodge will be immediately to your left.
- You may park to the left of the garage or in the parking lot across the road. Please do not block the garage.
LAKESIDE LOFT APARTMENT:
- After entering through the gate, take the first right onto Marcus Street.
- Follow the road until you reach an area where the road widens, there will be a large cabin to your left.
- Continue straight and then turn left onto Mcguire Street.
- The loft is located up the metal stairs above the garage to your left.
- You may park to the right of the garage or in the parking lot across the road. Please do not block the garage.
WOODSIDE CABINS & WOODSIDE COTTAGE SUITE:
- After entering through the gate, take the first left onto T-Rex Crossing.
- Follow the road until you reach your assigned cabin.
GLAMPING CABINS/LOFTS:
- After entering through the gate, continue straight on Holmstead Ranch Rd until you reach a fork in the road.
- Turn right onto Camden Circle.
- Stay to the left at the next fork and continue on Camden circle until you reach the next right.
- Turn into the gravel parking lot and park nearest to your assigned unit.
GLAMPING WAGONS:
- After entering through the gate, continue straight on Holmstead Ranch Rd until you reach a fork in the road.
- Turn right onto Camden Circle.
- Turn right onto McQuire Street at the next fork then turn left into the gravel parking lot.
- Continue straight to the Wagons, and park in front of your assigned unit.
Property History
The land on which Holmstead Ranch Resort is located has long been valued as a place of refuge and renewal. Situated in a protected valley beneath the Pine Valley Mountains just north of St. George, Utah, the area is notable for its natural beauty, reliable water sources, and temperate climate.
For generations, this region was utilized by the Southern Paiute people, who were drawn to the area’s fresh spring water, abundant wildlife (including deer, quail, pheasant, and turkey), and cooler seasonal temperatures. Numerous artifacts from this period have been discovered on the property, and the area surrounding the spring is now officially protected from further development in recognition of its historical and cultural significance.
In the 1890s, the land was first homesteaded by the Maudsley family, who were Latter-day Saint pioneers. They established a cattle ranch supported by the spring, which still bears the Maudsley name today. Over time, the Maudsleys expanded their operations to include a stagecoach office and inn serving travelers through the region. The family’s original cabin remains on the property and has been thoughtfully modernized.
After three generations of Maudsley stewardship, the property changed ownership several times until it was purchased by the Holm family in 2015. The Holm family began developing the ranch and resort as it exists today, constructing the main residence, thirty-two cabins, covered wagons, event spaces, barns, an arena, animal corrals, and the supporting infrastructure necessary for a full-service resort.
In October 2020, the Holm family sold the property to Tony Hsieh, who is widely recognized for his leadership at Zappos and his work promoting positive organizational culture through his book Delivering Happiness. Following his untimely passing shortly after the purchase, the property came under the ownership of his family.
Today, Holmstead Ranch Resort reflects the legacy of those who have stewarded the land before, honoring its cultural roots, pioneer history, and modern vision while continuing to offer a place of rest, connection, and appreciation for the natural landscape.
